There's no escaping the fact that Wichita isn't the most socially liberal of cities. Most recently, it was the scene of the murder of an abortion doctor by a right-wing nut job. That being said, there is still a thriving gay community in Wichita. There is no "gay hood," but you'll find a nice handful of bars and clubs scattered about town.
